WINNFIELD — Funeral services for Bessie Belle Erwin Nelson, 101, who died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bethlehem Baptist Church of Calvin with the Rev. Wayne Morrow and Rev. Brian McAllister officiating.

Burial service will follow in Munnerlyn Chapel Cemetery in Myra, La., under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield and again from 9 a.m. until time of services Tuesday.

Nelson was born on December 28, 1912 in Rodessa, La., the daughter of A.J. and Ada Erwin.

Nelson was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and was a former Sunday school teacher. She was a homemaker who took great pride in her home and in her vegetable and flower gardens, with special interest for her daylilies. She enjoyed cooking and hosting family reunions where extended family members were always welcome. She was an avid quilter and seamstress, having made many quilts and clothes for her children and grandchildren through the years.

Nelson was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James M. “Son” Nelson; son, Billy Ray Nelson; daughters, Dorothy Louise Fouche and Ernestine Nelson; grandchildren, Jimmy Braddock Griffin Jr., James David Fouche, Charles Nelson Fouche and Elaine Fouche; sisters, Minnie Teer, Ada Dean Williams and Margaret Webb and brother, Ernest Erwin.

Survivors include her daughters, Helen White of Winnfield and Catherine Jongbloed and husband, Bill of Lake Charles; son, James Ronnie Nelson and wife Barbara of Picayune, Ms.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
