BEN HILLYER/THE NATCHEZ DEMOCRAT — The Ryan family, including Jessica, her daughter Molly and dog Sadie, will host this year’s annual Natchez-Adams County Humane Society Christmas party. Jessica and her husband Morgan have been busy decorating the exterior and interior of their house on U.S. 61 South with festive Christmas decorations for the Dec. 13 fundraiser.

The Natchez-Adams County Humane Society is inviting Miss-Lou residents for a night of fellowship, music and food with the goal of helping animals get everything they need.

The humane society is hosting a Christmas fundraiser party from 6 to 8 p.m., Dec. 13 at the home of Morgan and Jessica Ryan at 1106 U.S. 61 South in Natchez, five miles past Beau Pré subdivision.

NACHS board member Susan Callon said the annual fundraiser is essential to keeping the shelter operational.

The humane society’s new shelter cost the organization nearly $1.38 million, of that, $500,000 is still needed.

“This is the first Christmas party that is really benefiting the new shelter,” Callon said. “Expect a great time of fellowship with fellow animal lovers. It’s a real good time for all of us to get together and celebrate Christmas.”

This year’s theme will be the 12 Days of Christmas, an idea Callon picked up from a magazine.

During the party, 12 entrees, prepared by Rhonda Tarver, will represent the 12 Days of Christmas.

“We will have more than 12 types of food, but our main 12 dishes will be decorated with posters, showing which day each dish represents,” Callon said.

Several supporters of the humane society will also donate and bring food items to the party.

Callon said guests will be in for a special treat this year, as Natchez High School students will provide live entertainment by lifting their voices for the holidays.

The party will also include a silent auction, during which both Christmas and non-Christmas items will be on sale.

“We will have it all displayed throughout the party,” Callon said. “These are items donated by different individuals. Anything from prints to china and candles to dog and cat presents will be available.”

Each year, Callon keeps the humane society’s Christmas parties close to her heart.

“I just remember all the Christmas decorations that people have done,” Callon said. “Last year, we had the Christmas party at Jim and Charlotte Franklin’s home in Beau Pré and (Charlotte) had a Christmas tree in every room. The houses are just so unique.”

Normally, Callon said she tries to pick a house that is unique and has not been seen by the community.

“Every home is different, and every personality is different,” Callon said.

Callon said the NACHS board is ready to move forward with the new shelter building.

“We are so excited and thrilled beyond measure with the new shelter,” Callon said. “That is the biggest Christmas present that I could ever imagine. That is what Christmas means, and if we can raise money for the shelter and the animals — I don’t want anything else.”

A $25 donation is required of each person in attendance at the fundraiser and can be paid at the door.

Additional monetary donations can also be sent to P.O. Box 549, Natchez, MS, 39120. Attire is casual.
