FERRIDAY — Services for Glenda Willett Byargeon, 81, of Vivian, La., formerly a resident of Vidalia for more than 50 years, will be at 10 a.m. today at Young’s Funeral Home Chapel in Ferriday with the Rev. Clyde Ray Webber officiating.

Burial will follow at the Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Mrs. Byargeon was born July 28, 1933, in Tullos, La., the daughter of Jim Dee Willett and Lillie Belle Nugent Willett.

She was a graduate of LaSalle High School in Olla, La., and a graduate of Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, La., with a degree in home economics. Later she studied and received her master’s degree from Louisiana State University.

She was a member of the Ferriday Church of God for a number of years. She taught Sunday school and served in a number of other aspects of the church.

Mrs. Byargeon moved to Vivian to be near her son and daughter-in-law, Pam. She faithfully attended Vivian United Methodist Church as long as her health allowed.

She was affectionately known as Mrs. “B” to a number of students and friends she worked with in Jackson, Quachita and Concordia Parish. She was looked up to by a number of 4-H achievers. She was known as the 4-H lady in Concordia Parish.

Mrs. Byargeon retired from Concordia Parish where she was well known for her special skills and her kindness and generosity to help anyone in need.

Mrs. “B” was considered by many to be the best pie maker around.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. Her nieces, Jan Watson Houck, Lisa Lancaster Smith, Lilah Lancaster Larkin and nephew, Joe Dee Lancaster, always had a special place in her heart. Her love for her family and God had no limitations.

Mrs. Byargeon was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Kirk Edwin Byargeon.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Bennie Byargeon; one son, Gary Byargeon and wife, Pam, of Vivian; two sisters, Bettye Downer of Vidalia and Jimmie Lancaster of Ferriday; two grandsons, Casey Byargeon and wife, Kristi, and Cale Byargeon and wife, Beth, all of Vivian; a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Casey Byargeon, Cale Byargeon, Lanny Lipsey, Tam Winston, Roy Rushing and J.T. Thompson.

The family requests that memorials be made to The Gideons, St. Jude or to a charity of choice.
