SHREVEPORT, La. — Funeral services for Janie Louise Gould, 83, of Jacksonville, Texas, who died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, in Jacksonville, will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport with the Rev. Larry Tyler officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
Gould was born Jan. 7, 1931, in Gloster, La., the daughter of H.S. and Vera Jacks.
Gould was a member of First Baptist Church in Jacksonville and Women’s Bible Class at The Mary Martha Sunday School Class. She played the piano for her class for several years.
Gould was raised in Elm Grove, La., and moved to Bossier City in third grade. She graduated from Bossier City High School in 1947.
She attended Louisiana College upon graduation from high school. She transferred to Louisiana Tech and graduated in 1952 with a major in elementary education.
During the summer prior to graduation, she taught kindergarten at First Baptist Church in Ruston, La. She married Charles Leslie Gould Oct. 16, 1949.
She served as an elementary school teacher in Louisiana and Texas a total of 21 years. The schools were Werner Park Elementary-Shreveport, R.V. Kerr-Bossier City and Trinity Heights Academy in Shreveport.
In Texas, Gould taught in two elementary schools, Glen Lock and Lamar in The Woodlands.
She was a wonderful mother and grandmother.
She enjoyed gardening and loved to cook. After retiring as an educator, she enjoyed volunteering for various organizations in Louisiana and Texas.
Gould was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Betty Hervey of Shreveport.
Survivors include her husband; daughter Sarah Beth Long and husband, Danny; son, Charles Gould Jr.; grandson, Joshua Long; and nephews, David and Steve Hervey.
