DeQUINCY, La. — Services for Monroe Lazine Montpelier Jr., 83, of DeQuincy, La., formerly of Harrisonburg, La., who died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2014, at Jennings American Legion Hospital in Jennings, La., will be at 1 p.m. today at Christensen Funeral Home in DeQuincy with the Rev. George Guy and the Rev. Carlton Jackson officiating.
Burial will follow DeQuincy Memorial Park under the direction of Christensen Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.
Mr. Montpelier was the son of the Monroe Montpelier Sr. and Lillie Prudhomme Montpelier.
He was a Christian Baptist by faith. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 5998 of Waterproof, serving as quarter master for two years.
Mr. Montpelier served his country proudly during World War II, serving in Austria and Germany for two tours of duty.
He was a kind, tender hearted man that loved his family and especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting and working as a mechanic on cars and small engines.
Mr. Montpelier was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Monroe “Monty” Montpelier III; and one sister, Florence Bryant.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Eulis Adams Montpelier; one son, Kenneth Miller and wife, Shronda, of DeQuincy; one daughter, Judy E. Bruce and husband, Ralph, of Dubach, La.; one sister, Patsy Hollaway of Harrisonburg; nine grandchildren, Deron Bruce, Todd Bruce, Travis Bruce, Velda Devilbiss, Alisebeth Hardesty, Sarah Miller, Whitney Reed, Savannah Montpelier and Brian Montpelier; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchidren.
