Demby and Winston reign over upcoming festivities

Nubian Social Aid & Pleasure Club’s fourth annual tableau Mardi Gras ball will be Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Natchez Convention Center. The 2015 theme is “What Time Is It.” Tickets are $40 per person and include dinner, drinks and entertainment. Tables are also available.
Calvin Richardson, Grammy Award nominee and Hot Line Band member, will provide entertainment. Tickets can be purchased from any Nuban SAPC member or by calling 601-392-3344 or 601-597-8063.
Queen Rosa Demby
Queen Rosa is the wife of Mr. Melvin Demby. She has two sons, Dax Winston and Courtney Winston and three grandchildren Tatyana, Kyla and Courtney Jr.
Demby is a retired educator of 44 years. Currently, she is employed by LaSalle Community Action Association Inc. as Head Start director. She is the owner, operator and designer of The Wedding Mart in Natchez.
She is a graduate of Alcorn State University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, master’s degree in guidance education and a graduate degree from Southern University, where she also received a master’s degree in supervision and administration.
She is a member of Greater Mount Bethel Baptist Church.
She enjoys traveling, shopping, reading, singing and spending time with family and friends.
Her motto is, “If I can help someone as I pass this way, then my living shall not be in vain.”
King Dax Orshay Winston
King Dax is married to LaToya Fleming Winston and is the son of the late Elzie Winston and Melvin and Rosa Demby. He is the father of Tatyana Winston, Jaylen Fleming and Jada Richardson
Winston is employed with Bouchard Transportation, and he attends Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church and Greater Mount Bethel Baptist Church
He graduated from Vidalia High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army serving for four years. Upon completing four years in the Army, he attended San Jacinto Community College in Riverside, Calif., and then went on to attend Southwest Theological Baptist Seminar in Fort Worth, Texas.
Winston is a U.S. Army veteran, member of Nubian Social Aid and Pleasure Club, Pilgrim Baptist Church Layman Ministry and a youth counselor for the YMCA of Arlington, Texas.
His hobbies include playing and watching basketball, cooking, reading and traveling.
2015 Chieftess Margaret January
Margaret is the wife of Andrew January and they are the parents of Andrea January Bonds and Marques January and the proud grandparents of Alexes, Cody, Tyler and Taylor.
She is the daughter of Viola Bennett and the late Walter Bennett. January attended Co-Lin Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi.
She is currently employed with Natchez-Adams School District at West Elementary School. She is a member of United Baptist Church where she serves as secretary, and a 1994 leadership Natchez graduate.
Her hobbies include, spending time with her family, shopping and traveling.

Maid Kierra Reed
Kierra is the daughter of Kyla Watson and Dr. Alphonse Reed. She is a senior at Natchez High School where she reigns as Miss Natchez High School. She is a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club and the Student Government Association. She enjoys spending time with loved ones, shopping and traveling. Upon graduating in May, she plans to attend Southern University or Jackson State University to major in criminal justice.
Maid Kaelyn Le’Onna Bell-Armsted
Kaelyn is the daughter of Rhoshonda Bell Jones and Herbert Armsted.
She has two siblings, Bryson and Elana Armsted. Kaelyn’s maternal grandparents are Mary E. Bell and James Bell and her paternal grandmother is Mary Armsted. Kaelyn has three special aunts, Sandra Loyd, Delorise Ware and Adrianna Ware.
Kaelyn is a junior at Natchez High School. Kaelyn has received special recognition for receiving the top 10 highest English and math scores on the state exams. She aspires to attend the University of Southern Mississippi to become a dental hygienist. Her hobbies are singing, listening to music and playing the piano.
Maid Ernesha Chatman
Ernesha is the daughter of Maranda and Arthur Woods, Ernest and Erica Chatman. She has six sisters and three brothers. Ernesha is the granddaughter of Henry Winston, the late Emma Lee Chatman, the late James Bell Williams, Doris Williams and Minister Mosell Williams. She is a junior honor student at Natchez High School. Ernesha is a member of Daughters of Zion Baptist Church, where she serves as a junior usher and sings in the choir. She is the lead point guard of the Natchez High School Lady Bulldogs, and she runs track for the cross county outdoor track team. Her accomplishments include best of AAU basketball players, allstate basketball player and being a member of the 2014 state tournament championship team. She plans to attend Louisiana State University and major in architecture and minor in mortuary science. She enjoys watching sports and spending time with family and friends.
Maid Skylar Tomesha Benet Morgan
Skylar is the daughter of Yolanda and Thomas Morgan, Sr. and the sister of Thomas Morgan Sr. She is a junior at Natchez High School, where she is captain of the Gold N Bluz drill team and captain of the Lady Bulldogs Basketball team. She is also a member of NHS National Honor Society, Forest Aide Baptist Church, Diamond Princess Step Group, Girl Scout Troop 5500, the 2014 state tournament championship team and a volunteer at Natchez Children’s Home Services. Skylar is employed part time with Morgan’s Catering. She plans to attend the University of Southern Mississippi and major in physical therapy. She also plans to play for the WNBA, and her dream is to be the first woman in the NBA. Her hobbies are dancing and playing basketball. Skylar believes she can achieve all things through Christ, Jesus who strengthens her.

Junior Duke Tyreek Woods
Tyreek is the son of Tanya Woods and the grandson of Leola Jones, Alvin Jones and Earl Fitzgerald. He is junior at Natchez High School, where he is an honor student and a member of the band and soccer team. He is a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church, and he sings in the choir at Milford Baptist Church. His hobbies are playing games and spending time with family and friends.
Junior Duke Kelvin Woods Lyles
Kelvin is the son of Kina Woods & Derrick Lyles. He is the grandson Kenneth and Patti Woods and Carlotta Gray. Kelvin attends Terry High School in Terry. He has a 3.1 GPA. Kelvin plays baseball for Forest Hill Youth Club. He is a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church. His favorite scripture is Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” He enjoys playing sports and other outside recreational activities. Kelvin’s life goals are to play professional baseball and become an engineer.
Junior Duke Henry Mitchell
Henry is the son of Shirley Bailey and Tony Bailey. He is also the grandson of Henry Mitchell, Bobby Mitchell, Charles Bailey, Frances Bailey and Edrina and Cleveland Hunt.
He is a junior at Natchez High School, where he is a member of the power lifting team. His future plans are to enlist in the U.S. Marines. Henry’s hobbies are playing football and weightlifting.
Junior Duke George Scott III
George is the son of Sadie L. Scott and George Scott Jr. He is the grandson of the late Rev. Ernest Havard, the late Ludora Havard and Mr. and Mrs. George Scott Sr. He attends Adams County Christian School, where he is a member of the football team and track team. George is a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church and attends First Baptist Church. He plans to attend the University of Alabama, Ole Miss or LSU. His hobbies are hunting fishing and playing football.
