NATCHEZ — Three teenagers are in jail after allegedly shooting three men in an attempt to control who comes in and out of their neighborhood.
Jordan D. Johnson, 18, 935 N. Union St., Darryl K. Hurts Jr., 16, 210 Country Club Drive and Jadarrius J. McKnight, 15, 303A Dumas Drive, were all arrested on charges of three counts aggravated assault following the incident.
Johnson was arrested Sunday, while Hurts and McKnight were arrested Monday.
Natchez Police Detective Jerry Ford said the three victims in the shooting had gone to the Maryland Heights apartments to visit a girl who lived there.
“When (the victims) pulled up over there, three guys approached them asked them what they were doing in the Heights, who they were there to see and did they live in the Heights,” Ford said. “When the (victims) gave them the information, (the suspects) told them they did not allow them out there.”
The victims started to leave the area in an effort to avoid confrontation, Ford said, but one of the suspects shouted that the victims were getting away.
The three suspects opened fire on the vehicle with handguns. One passenger was struck in the arm, another was grazed on the left side of his head and the third was grazed on the leg, Ford said.
Ford said the police were not aware of the victims having any previous problems with the suspects.
“These guys were mostly neighborhood bullies, hanging around the area wanting to control who comes and goes out there,” he said.
The victims were treated at a local hospital and released, Ford said.
All three suspects were detained without bond Tuesday evening.
