Ferriday man dies in single-vehicle crash

FERRIDAY — A Ferriday man died Saturday morning after he was ejected from his vehicle in a single-vehicle crash.
Louisiana State Police responded to the crash at approximately 4:53 a.m., which occurred on Louisiana 15 north of Louisiana 131.
The crash involved a 1997 Jeep Cherokee driven by Roger L. Merrill, 24.
Merrill was traveling northbound on Louisiana 15 when he lost control and exited the right side of the roadway, according to an LSP press release.
After exiting the roadway, the vehicle reentered Louisiana 15 before Merrill overcorrected it and exited the right side again. The vehicle then began overturning before coming to rest.
Merrill was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected during the crash. Merrill is suspected of being impaired and driving at a high rate of speed when the crash occurred, according to the LSP release.
Merrill was pronounced dead at the scene.
Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
