FERRIDAY — Services for Nell Tyler King, 87, of Ferriday, who died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with the Rev. Louis Sklar officiating.

Burial will follow at Heard Cemetery in Manifest, La., under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.

Mrs. King was born Feb. 19, 1927, in Jonesville, the daughter of Joseph Warren Tyler and Susie McMillin Tyler.

She was a lifelong resident of Ferriday. She was a graduate of Harrisonburg High School and attended Louisiana College, and she graduated from Alexandria Baptist Hospital School of Nursing with a registered nurse’s degree.

She retired after 27 years of doing public health nursing in both Mississippi and Louisiana.

King was a member of the Pilgrimage Garden Club of Natchez since 1974.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry Clay King; sister, Marie Hutchens; and two brothers, Joseph Walton Tyler and Norman Tyler.

Survivors include her daughter, Suzanne King Vegas and husband, Clint, of Ferriday; son, Tyler Clay King of Ft. Myers, Fla.; five grandsons, Andrew Vegas, Adam Vegas, Liam King, Samuel King and Eli Moore; two granddaughters, Caroline King and Raquel Hubbard; long brother and sister-in-laws, Bill and Margaret King of Ferriday; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Lillian Turner, Debbie Roberts and Priscilla Hollins for their many years of help, support and love, as well as recent caregivers, LaToya Turner, Magnolia Jefferson, Lisa Sheppard and Breanna Watkins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to a charity of choice.
