NATCHEZ — Miss-Lou residents will be able to ring in the New Year watching over the Mississippi River with a fireworks show.
René Adams with the First Natchez Radio Group, who coordinates the show, said fireworks will be shot from a barge in the middle of the river at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
“People will have a chance to enjoy and not wait until midnight,” Adams said.
The show is sponsored by several community organizations, including the radio group.
The organizers host a fireworks show every July 4 and on New Year’s Eve, when they can raise enough money, Adams said.
There wasn’t a show last New Year’s Eve, but Adams said the group wanted to have one this year because of the forthcoming Natchez Tricentennial, which will celebrate the city’s 300th birthday.
Adams expects both sides of the river to be lined with spectators.
“It brings everybody together,” she said. “Families can come out and enjoy it.”
