Leon “Jim” Carter Jr.

STAMPLEY — Funeral services for Leon “Jim” Carter Jr., 68, of Stampley, who died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014, at the River Regional Medical Center in Vicksburg, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Pine Grove Baptist Church in Stampley with the Rev. Lonnie Culbert officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.

Carter was born on Aug. 19, 1946, the son of Leon Carter Sr. and Eva Stampley Carter in Jefferson County.

He accepted Christ at an early age at Pine Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. J.H. McField where he served on the usher board for many years. Carter was united in holy matrimony to Martha Chambliss in 1967.  To this union, one child was born, Vivian Janette Carter. He was a life-ling resident of Stampley. He retired from Thomasville Furniture Company in Fayette.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leroy Stampley Sr. and Lee Edward Carter; and two sisters, Ora Dell Stampley an Irene Norton.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Chambliss Carter; one daughter, Vivian Carter of Stampley; two grand daughters, Jasmine Brown Ellis and husband, Omarie, of Fayette, and DeErica Brown and husband, Marquez, of Stampley; one grandson, Darrius Leon Carter and wife, Brooke, of Fayette; six great-grandchildren, Jaydah, Ja’Airial, Ja’Airian, Markiera, Tyler and Amoni; eight brothers, Julius Carter and wife, Beatrice, Freddie Carter and wife, Anita, Claude Albert Carter and wife, Edna, Roosevelt Carter, Allen Curtis Carter and wife, Jerry Dean, Anthony Carter and wife, Kristina, Vincent Carter and Michael Carter; seven sisters, Azelia Shelby, Willie Mae Stampley, Vivian Wade, Doris Carr, Diane Bailey and  husband, Tony, Julia Banks and Angela Carter; three brothers in laws, S.D. Johnson Sr. and K.T. Felton, both of Stampley, and Cory Chambliss and wife, Dorothy, of Kenner; two sister in laws, Marie W. Stampley and Louise Doss; one god-son, Tony “Tank” Doss; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers will be Charles Cleveland, Larry Smith, Lee Felton, Albert Curtis Felton, Jessie Doss, Dexter Hayes, Shelbert Lee Culbert, Lee Doss, Robert Lee Tenner and Richard Buford.

Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Curtis Carter, Anthony Carter, Vince Carter, Roosevelt Carter, Julius Carter, Claude Carter, Freddie Carter, Tony “Tank” Doss, Michael Carter and Darrius Carter.
