NATCHEZ — A Natchez man was sentenced to spend two decades behind bars for his part in the robbery of a local service station.
A second man involved in the robbery will spend five years in prison for his part.
William Ryan Magee, 23, and Travis Cade, 23, both pleaded guilty to armed robbery before Judge Lillie Sanders Tuesday.
Sanders sentenced Magee to 20 years in prison, while Cade was sentenced to 10 years prison with five years suspended.
Magee was arrested in late March and Cade was arrested in April in connection with the March 24 gunpoint robbery of Kaiser’s on U.S. 61 North.
During the robbery, two masked men wearing plastic gloves and armed with pistols took approximately $300 cash and an undetermined number of Newport cigarettes after taking the store employee to the back shortly before 3 a.m., according to an Adams County Sheriff’s Offices news release at the time.
Magee was one of four prisoners charged with attempted escape in November when the inmates used mattresses as shields and unsuccessfully tried to rush guards entering a cellblock door.
He was also involved in an incident that resulted in rules restricting how prisoners in the county jail and those who call them on the Homewav video visitation system can use the technology.
During the incident, a person speaking to Magee through the system took a screen shot of him and several other inmates standing near the Homewav video terminal and posted it on a social media site.
In the image, which depicted the interior of the jail, the inmates were using obscene and gang-related sign language.
The jail’s rules now prohibit the capturing and sharing of images from the Homewav system on penalty of losing video visitation privileges.
