Greenwood, Hawkins reign over upcoming festivities

The Krewe of Natchez Indians has announced its royalty court for its ninth annual Mardi Gras ball set for 8 p.m. Saturday.
This year’s theme is “Winter Wonderland.” The event is invitation-only and will be hosted at the Natchez Convention Center.
The Natchez Indians fourth annual Mardi Gras parade will be at 6 p.m. Feb. 4 in downtown Natchez and anyone interested in participating should call 601-392-3087.
King Melvin Greenwood
King Melvin Greenwood was born July 28, 1957, in Camden. He is the son of Pauline Greenwood and the late Thomas Greenwood. He attended Velma Jackson High School and Jackson State University, where he was a member of the award winning band, Sonic Boom of the South.
He currently resides in McComb. Greenwood has three children, Melvin Greenwood Jr., Tamika Greenwood-Johnson, Ashanti Greenwood and one grandson, Noah Bradley Johnson.
Greenwood has a Mississippi real estate license, series 6 and 63 security license and property and casualty insurance license. Greenwood is employed by Allstate Insurance Company through The Greenwood Agency Inc. with offices in McComb and Byram.
Greenwood is a personal financial representative, and helps customers prepare for retirement and assets management.
Greenwood serves on the board of directors for First Unity Federal Credit Union.
Greenwood enjoys golfing and spending time with his grandson.
Queen Juanita Hawkins
Queen Juanita Hawkins in the daughter of Josephine Hawkins of Vidalia and the late Sam and Mary Hawkins of Natchez.
She is a 1972 graduate of North Natchez High School and is employed by Natchez Community Hospital and The Burn Bed and Breakfast.
Hawkins has three children Joseph, JaWan and JaKeisha, all of Natchez, and two grandchildren, Ravon Campbell of Natchez and Jayvorrius Edwards of Dallas.
She also has four sisters, Mary Allen, Barbara Green, Betty Collins and Jessie White, and two deceased brothers, L.V. Hawkins and Lawrence Hawkins.
Hawkins is a past duchess of the Krewe of Natchez Indians royalty.
In addition to her participation in the Krewe of Indians, Juanita is an active member of Smithland Baptist Church.
Her hobbies include shopping and reading, but her favorite pastime is spending time with her family and friends.
Duke David Myles
Duke David Myles is the son of Robert and Johneette Myles of Natchez. He is married to krewe member Elizabeth Myles and has four children, Ashley Myles, Delnora Cook, Ashley Cook and William Madison. Myles also has two grandchildren Zoey Cook and Braylon Myles all of Natchez.
He is a graduate of South Natchez High School and has been employed for more than 22 years with International Paper. Myles is a member of John G. Johns No. 3 Lodge.
He enjoys spending time with family and friends, hunting, bowling and traveling.
Duchess Elizabeth Myles
Duchess Elizabeth Myles is the daughter of Gloria Jean Madison and the late William Dave Madison. She is the wife of krewe member David. Myles has four children Delnora Cook, Ashley Myles, Ashley Cook and William Madison. She also has two grandchildren Zoey Cook and Braylon Myles all of Natchez.
Myles is a graduate of Ferriday High School. After graduating, she went on to attend Louisiana College. She is currently employed with the Isle Of Capri Casino in Natchez.
Myles is a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church. In her spare time, she likes to shop, travel, play with her grandchildren and visit family and friends.
Children have a special place in her heart, she aspires to one day own a children’s home.
Giving under-privileged children a haven to call home is important to her.
Duchess Tanecia Letish Jackson
Duchess Tanecia Letish Jackson was born on July 8, 1986, in Dallas and raised in McComb. Tanecia is the daughter of Sharon Wells and the late Ervin Jones Sr. She is the proud mother of one daughter, Camara Jackson, who is 1.
She is a 2005 graduate of North Pike High School. Jackson currently resides in Oceanside, Calif., and is persuing a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and exercise science from Ashford University.
Jackson is currently serving our country on active duty as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Her personal awards include, sea service deployment ribbon, Marine Corps good conduct medal, global war on terrorism medal, global war on terrorism expeditionary medal, Marine Corps recruiting ribbon, humanitarian service medal, Navy and Marine Corps achievement medal, national defense service medal and five certificates of commendation.
She has been on active duty since October 2005 and has had the opportunity to perform her duties as a tactical communications specialist in various different locations including, Australia, Kuwait, Singapore, Thailand, Jordan and Somalia.
In 2011, she was selected to be a canvassing recruiter in the Louisiana area, where she was responsible for inspiring and mentoring and was awarded recruiter of the year.
She believes that if she can inspire at least one person each day then lives can be changed in 365 ways.
Jackson enjoys spending time with family and friends, working out, shopping and traveling.
Duchess India TaNebra Martin
Duchess India TaNebra Martin is the mother of 7-month-old Grayson Cruz.
Martin is the daughter of Georgia Ann Martin and Joseph Ray Miller
She has two brothers, Joseph Hawkins and JaWan Hawkins, and two sisters, Toya Martin and Jakeisha Hawkins
Martin is a graduate of Natchez High School class of 2004, where she was a member of the BETA Club, Key Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Health Occupations Students of America, student council, National Honor Society, Lady Bulldogs basketball team and tennis team.
Martin received her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Alcorn State University in 2011. At ASU she was a cheerleader and a Golden Girl.
She received her Master of Science in nursing degree in nursing education from William Carrey University in 2014.
Martin will be working toward her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in the fall as a family nurse practitioner.
Martin is an active member of the National League of Nursing Association Sigma Pheta Pau, National Honors Society for nurses and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
Martin is currently working at Kingwood Medical Center in Houston.
