NATCHEZ — Services for Walter Johnson “Sugar Man” Sr., 69, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Greater St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. D.W. Howard officiating.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Curtis Funeral Home Systems.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.

Mr. Johnson was the son of Ben and Bettie Johnson.

He attended Adams County public schools and was employed as a truck driver.

Mr. Johnson was retired.

He was a member of Greater St. Mark Baptist Church and served as the chairman of the deacon board.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and one granddaughter.

Survivors include his devoted wife, Bobbie J. Johnson; two daughters, Joyce Singleton and husband, Clarence, and Cynthia Purvis and husband, Willie, all of Jackson; one son, Walter Johnson Jr. and wife, Jaenet, of Byram; two brothers, George Johnson Sr. of Gallatin, Tenn., and James Johnson and wife, Mildred, of Natchez; one sister, Alberta McDuffie of Natchez; nine grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
