NATCHEZ — Cathedral High School’s varsity boys’ and varsity girls’ basketball teams each picked up unexpected wins in MHSAA Division 7-1A play without even having to get on the court against an opponent they were supposed to face later this week.

The Green Wave and Lady Green Wave were scheduled to host division opponent Piney Woods High School Friday night. Now those games will not take place.

Green Wave head coach Peter Arnold said on Tuesday night that because of academic issues involving members of the Lady Tornadoes’ basketball team, both of Piney Woods’ teams have decided to forfeit the games.

Which now means after Cathedral picked up wins against Mississippi School for the Deaf Wednesday night, its next games will not be until next Tuesday at Bogue Chitto High School.
