NATCHEZ — Services for Helen “Bay” Gooseberry, 69, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at her residence, will be at noon Saturday at Emmanuel Church of God in Christ with the Rev. George Marshall officiating.
Burial will follow at the St. Mary Baptist Church Cemetery in Selma under the direction of Bateaste Memorial Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Gooseberry was born Feb. 2, 1945, in Natchez, the daughter of Anthogy and Annie J. Williams.
She was a 1962 graduate of Sadie V. Thompson High School and was employed by Jefferson Davis Hospital for 19 years.
She was also a member of the Emmanuel Church of God in Christ and enjoyed reading the Bible, teaching the Bible, missionary work and cooking.
Mrs. Gooseberry was preceded in death by her husband, George Gooseberry Sr.; her parents; one brother, J.T. Williams; and one sister, L.V. Harris.
Survivors include one daughter, Shuvonne Benton and husband, Terry, of Anchorage, Alaska; two sons, Levander Gooseberry and wife, Maria, and George Gooseberry and wife, Jeri, all of Dallas; two sisters, Lee Esther Drew of Lancaster, Texas and Anna Laura Leak and husband, Bobbie, of DeSoto, Texas; four brothers, Herman Williams and wife, Alberta, Lonnell Williams and wife, Irish, and Derrick Williams, all of Natchez, and Curtis Williams and wife, Bertha, of Dallas; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Sylvia Washington and Katie Thomas, both of Natchez; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers will be Adrian Davis, Oliver Prater, Simon McMorris, Leroy Jefferson, Otis Fleming and Johnny Johnson.
