To legislators: Stay focused on big issues

Local lawmakers suggest they’re working hard for local residents with a handful of bills in the hopper of local interest.
Those bills include pay raises for all state workers, funds to restore a Natchez state landmark and a few rather odd, reactionary bills that may resonate with some voters, but have little meaning.
Proposals that would suggest the State of Mississippi has the right to nullify or just ignore any federal regulations it seeks to are a waste of time.
We hope our local delegation remains front and center on the big issues that matter — conservative spending for things that aren’t critical to our future.
Working hard to protect rights against the fear of the federal government isn’t a wise use of taxpayer money, which gets burned by the second when the Legislature is in session.
Funding education and maintaining state infrastructure should be priorities one and two.
Much of the rest of what gets pushed through under the guise of being important legislation tends to be more sideshow than substance.
