GLOSTER — Services for William Spencer Robinson, 74, of Gloster, who died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, at his residence, will be at 10 a.m. today at Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Zach Smith officiating.

Burial will follow at the Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Brown Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Mr. Robinson was born Sept. 21, 1940, in Natchez, the son of William B. Robinson and Stella Givens Robinson.

He attended high school in Natchez and was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, with a bachelor of science/bachelor of administration degree in management.

Mr. Robinson was also a U.S. Navy veteran.

He was employed by Sam’s Club in Dothan, Ala., as general manager before his retirement in 1998. During his career in wholesale and retail he and his wife lived in the southern states of Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama and Florida, where they have a number of friends. During his working career, he met three “special friends.” Gary Doffitt of Rodgers, Ark., O.D. Gray of Pineville, La., and Doyle Hayes of Huntsville, Ala. Spencer touched so many lives with his huge heart. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Mr. Spencer was an avid golfer, playing golf with his “friend” Dick Austin, when he lived in Florida. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf with his son, Bryan and brothers-in-law, Mike and Loren Nelson. He and his wife, Keita, were very active in fundraising for The Children’s Miracle Network. Spencer was past president of the Gloster Chamber of Commerce and a number of other civic and community organizations.

Mr. Spencer was preceded in death by his father; one son, William “Little Spence” Robinson; and one brother, Jack Robinson.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Keita Nelson Robinson; one son, Bryan D. Robinson and wife, Kim, of Walker, La.; five grandchildren, Hunter Robinson, Beau Robinson and Bryce Robinson, Courtney and Corey Hutchinson; his mother, Stella Hammack of Zachary, La.; one sister, Shirley Niehaus and husband, Mike, of Zachary; one brother, Ray Robinson of Cherokee, N.C.; one aunt, Bea Hogan of Brastown, N.C.; three brothers-in-law, Loren Nelson and Mike Nelson, both of Gloster, and Bobby G. Nelson and wife, Pat, of Ruth; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family thanks the following doctors for their kindness and care during Spencer’s illness: Dr. Louis J. Owens of Woodville, Dr. David Ladden of Lubbock, Texas, Dr. Ricardo Nimo of Centreville, Dr. Roderick C. Given and Dr. Jack J. Rodriguez, both of Natchez. A special thanks to Hospice Compassus, Dr. Lucius Lampton and Mr. Spencer’s sitter, Carolyn Floyd.
