FERRIDAY — Delta Charter School’s aspirations to play in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association were granted in an LHSAA executive council meeting in Baton Rouge Wednesday morning.
The school was accepted pending a site visit, which Delta Charter head football and basketball coach Dewayne Taylor called a formality.
“They want to come make sure that we could fill home games, and such,” Taylor said. “It’s really just a technically, so yeah, we’ve basically been accepted.”
The Storm will begin playing against varsity competition this upcoming football season, and the school will play baseball, basketball, softball, golf and tennis.
Taylor said he expects the Storm to be in LHSAA Class A because of the school’s enrollment numbers.
Delta Charter will meet Feb. 11 to discuss district alignment. Taylor said he expects to be placed in a district with Sicily Island.
“We’ll know more at that meeting as we request to enter a district,” Taylor said. “We’ll then meet again to see we want to finalize everything.”
Delta Charter School administrator and director Clovis Christman said the school is looking forward to competing against varsity squads next school year.
“It’s a big relief,” Christman said. “It’s all about the kids, and this decision has everyone excited. We’re happy to have gotten this accomplished.”
