NATCHEZ — A St. Joseph man was detained on a $150,000 cash bond Wednesday after he allegedly shot another man during a domestic incident Tuesday evening.
Allen Lawrence Perrett, 44, 1296 Louisiana 892, St. Joseph, was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following the incident.
The victim, Hearne Hathaway, was transported to Natchez Regional Medical Center and then airlifted to Rapides Medical Center in Alexandria with a gunshot wound to the hip following the shooting.
According to an Adams County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, deputies responded to 131 Lagrange Road at approximately 9 p.m. Tuesday.
A third person on the scene, a female, told investigators Perritt had showed up at her residence, and — finding her and Hathaway inside — began to argue with her. Perritt and the woman reportedly lived at different residences but were in a continuous domestic relationship.
Perritt refused to leave the residence and Hathaway stepped in, shoving the suspect out the doorway, and the two men began to scuffle in the residence’s carport, the spokesperson said.
The female reportedly went to her room to retrieve a gun for protection, but before she could get back to the carport a gunshot rang out and Hathaway told her to call an ambulance because he’d been shot.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they found the woman trying to stop Hathaway’s bleeding. Perritt was also present at the scene, the spokesperson said.
Hathaway was shot with a .45-caliber bullet.
The gun identified as Perritt’s was a Remington 1911 .45-caliber, while the female victim had a Taurus .380.
The incident remains under investigation.
