NATCHEZ — Services for John Henry Proby, 82, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Stanley Searcy officiating.
Burial will follow at the Greater St. Mark Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from noon to 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Proby was born Jan. 18, 1933, in Adams County, the son of Henry and Susie Murphy Proby.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Dwayne Proby and Glennis Marsaw; and his first wife, Elizabeth Proby Jones.
Survivors include his loving, devoted and caring wife who he loved and adored, Brenda “Ms. B” Proby; four daughters, Jowana K. Proby Brown and husband, the Rev. Herman Brown of New Orleans, Linda “Pam-Poo” Gates and husband, Norman, of Peoria, Ill., Chantel Marsaw of Natchez and Mary Proby-Gray and her family of Atlanta; four sons, John E. Proby and wife, Danya, of Houston, Michael L. Proby of Los Angeles, Kent B. Proby and wife, Cheryl, of Atlanta and Charles “Dude” Harrison of Natchez; three sisters, Mary Johnson and husband, Wallace, Lettie Wells and Sue Willie Smith and husband, John; two brothers, Jessie Proby and Henry Proby, both of Chicago; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends, including his best friend, James Squalls.
The family extends thanks to everyone in the medical field for the loving care given to Mr. Proby. Thanks to Dr. Charles Borum, Dr. Flattman, Dr. O’Brien, Dr. Tillman, Dr. England, Promise Hospital, Glenburney Nursing Home and the second floor staff at Natchez Community Hospital, who went over and beyond. Also thanks to the food services department. Love to you all.
