LORMAN (AP) — Claiborne County Sheriff Marvin Lucas says an arrest has been made in the fatal shooting of a Natchez native and former Jackson State University football player during an altercation near Alcorn State University.

Lucas said Kennen McCallister, 21, is charged with aggravated assault. Lucas says more charges are possible.

At 2 a.m. Sunday, Lucas says Travis Woods, 23, was killed during a fight outside of Patton’s Store after a party at a nearby club. Lucas says deputies are investigating what started the fight.

He says McCallister was a security guard at the club, came outside and started firing shots. One of the bullets hit Woods, who died at a local hospital.

Two others were shot in the fight. One was treated and released. Lucas says the other is in critical but stable condition.

After graduating from Natchez High School in 2009, Woods went on to play for Jackson State, and was a member of the 2013 JSU Tiger football squad.
