Agreement needed on fire truck deal

Hopefully, Adams County and the City of Natchez are close to being in agreement on the details of what the Natchez Fire Department needs in a new truck.
Adams County has agreed to purchase a new truck as part of city-county fire agreement, but the details of exactly what the county needs to buy have become a bit confusing of late.
That confusion was caused, at least in part, by a miscommunication between the city fire chief and the county’s purchasing clerk.
It would appear that the two groups are coming close to an agreement on the specifics.
That’s a good thing since the truck’s purchase, when finalized, should help the NFD provide better fire-fighting services for all residents — city and county.
The county’s agreement with the city is important to county residents. As we’ve long said, when a residential fire occurs in the county, property owners have reason to expect full-time professionals to respond.
We continue to support the city and county working together on this and other areas in which they can cooperate and consolidate government services.
