Former JSU football player Travis Woods’ services set

NATCHEZ — Funeral services for former Jackson State University football player Travis Woods have been set for Friday, family members said Thursday.

Visitation for the public will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 2975 Cannonsburg Road, in Natchez. The memorial service will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The family will welcome anyone wanting to speak.

Private visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the church, and a ceremony by his Omega Psi Phi fraternity brothers will be at 5 p.m.

A celebration of life will be at noon Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Natchez High School Gymnasium, 319 Sergeant Prentiss Drive, Natchez.

Woods, 23, a Natchez native, was a starting defensive back with JSU in 2013.

Woods was shot and killed in an altercation outside a club in Lorman, at approximately 2:30 a.m. Sunday, authorities said.

Kennen McCallister, 21, was charged with aggravated assault in connection to Woods’ death. More charges are possible against McCallister, authorities said.
