NATCHEZ — Few details have been released regarding a week-old, two-car collision that involved a Natchez Police Department patrol car.
The collision occurred Jan. 29 at approximately 7:52 a.m. at the corner of Commerce and Franklin streets.
While pursuing a white truck for speeding, a Natchez patrol car collided with a green Honda Accord at the intersection.
Natchez Police Department Lt. Craig Godbold said the driver of the Honda Accord was female. A child was also in the car. Both were transported to Natchez Regional Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries and released the same day.
“We had a report that the police car was chasing a white truck, but we’re still trying to piece it together,” said Godbold, adding that the patrol car never caught up to the truck.
“The investigation is ongoing with the highway patrol.”
The name of the officer driving the patrol car has not been released, nor has the name of the driver of the Honda Accord.
Godbold said the front bumper of the patrol car was significantly damaged in the incident.
“I don’t believe this was an actual chase, but that is still under investigation,” he said.
The Natchez Police Department is scheduled to meet with highway patrol today at 10 a.m. to investigate the incident.
