NATCHEZ — Services for Ruth Thelma Powell Colter, 90, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, in Natchez, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Noelle Read and the Rev. Tim Brown officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church in Stratton Chapel.
Mrs. Colter was born March 29, 1924, in Natchez, the daughter of Charles D. Powell and Ruth Powell Schuchs.
She married Raymond Colter in 1948, and remained in Natchez throughout their 60 years of marriage. She was an accomplished cook, enjoyed sewing and reading and was an avid Bridge player.
Mrs. Colter and her husband loved to travel and made a number of memorable trips in the United States and abroad. Very involved in community life, she participated actively in the Natchez Garden Club and First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Colter was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, Charles D. Powell and R. Lennie Schuchs.
Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Burkes and husband, Eddie, of Natchez, Linda Lundy and husband, McKinley, of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Susan Hollingsworth and husband, Guy, of The Woodlands, Texas; eight grandchildren, Colter Burkes and wife, Marietta Echeverria-Burkes of Silver Spring, Md., Joanna Brumfield and husband, Clif, of Natchez, Anna Lundy and husband, Joseph Garcia of Nashville, Tenn., Mack Lundy and wife, Laura, Sarah Lundy and husband, Dauren Sholanov, and Adam Lundy, all of Chattanooga, and Alex Hollingsworth and wife, Brandi, and Stephen Hollingsworth and wife, Alison, all of The Woodlands; and 11 great-grandchildren, Max, Luke, Addie Ruth and Ruby Burkes, Cooper and Tatum Brumfield, Lily and Charlie Lundy, and Trillium Lundy, and Sophie and Denton Hollingsworth.
Pallbearers will be Colter Burkes, Alex Hollingsworth, Stephen Hollingsworth, Mack Lundy, Adam Lundy, Clif Brumfield, Joseph Garcia and Dauren Sholanov.
The family expresses their deep appreciation to her loving caregivers — Zelmon Dunmore, Lusrea Watson, Carlotta Jackson, LaWanda Smith, Barbara Connors and Esther Dennis, Camellia Hospice and Dr. Barry Tillman.
