NATCHEZ — Services for James Thompson, 95, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, in Sibley, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Sibley with the Rev. James Brooks officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 5:45 p.m. today, with a celebration of life wake service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Thompson was born Nov. 11, 1919, in Sibley, the son of Calvin Thompson Sr. and Sarah Thompson.
He was educated in the Adams County school system and was retired from International Paper Company.
Mr. Thompson was a member of the Mount Sinai Baptist Church and served as a deacon and past Sunday school treasurer. He was also a member of the E & C Hunting Club and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Saint Arby Thompson; one daughter, Ruby Thompson; one granddaughter, Laura Lanier; and one son-in-law, Jerry Lyles Sr.
Survivors include five daughters, Mary Jane Lyles, Bertha Lanier and husband, Matthew, Sarah Manning, Linda Gooden and husband, the Rev. Willie Gooden, and Jacqueline Johnson and husband, Caleb Jr.; one brother, Joseph Thompson and wife, Dorothy; two sisters, Margaret Lynch and Clara Martin; two sisters-in-law, Bertha Green and Doris Thompson; and two brothers-in-law, Chester Washington and Elijah Washington.
