BROOKHAVEN — The Natchez Lady Bulldogs took on a familiar opponent Monday in Wingfield, and the outcome was nearly identical with Natchez blowing out the Lady Falcons, 52-27.

“The girls came out really well,” Natchez head coach Alphaka Moore said. “They were pressing the ball and running the floor and were really focused.”

Natchez had no trouble gaining control of the game, as winless Wingfield provided little resistance.

The Lady Bulldogs stormed to a 28-4 lead after just a quarter of play and cruised the rest of the way.

Twelve different Lady Bulldogs recorded points in the win, with Kirdis Clark and Skylar Morgan leading the way with nine each.

Zyaire Ewing and Rashonae Rice added six apiece.

“They did everything that was asked of them,” Moore said. “I was pleased. This was the momentum we needed going into the district championship and the playoffs.”

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs are slated to play in the Class 5A Region 6 championship game at 7 p.m. Friday where they will face either Brookhaven or Pearl River Central.

“Pearl River Central has improved over the past year and they are really feisty,” Moore said.

“Brookhaven has some pretty good young girls, but it will be a good matchup between whoever.”
