NLCC, elections headline good news week

After a brief day of spring-like weather Saturday, the temperatures are expected to drop again later this week, reminding us all that we’re not out of the winter woods yet.

But before we bundle up and kick off a new week complaining about cold, wet weather ahead, let’s pause this morning to reflect on some of the good news in our community from last week:

4The Natchez Literary and Cinema Celebration completed a successful 26th annual event. It was a bittersweet one as co-founder Carolyn Vance Smith has announced her retirement after this year but still a great event honoring Southern authors, songwriters and filmmakers, among others.

4Natchez-Adams School Superintendent Frederick Hill was chosen to participate in a select group of Mississippi school superintendents. He will be joining the state’s first Superintendent Academy in which superintendents from across the state will work on advanced leadership skills. Congratulations to Hill for being selected to participate.

4Congratulations as well to several Adams County elected officials who, theoretically, were “re-elected” Friday when no opponents qualified to run against them. Supervisor David Carter, Justice Court Judges Patricia Dunmore and Charlie Vess, Adams County Prosecutor Barrett Martin and Adams County Tax Collector Peter Burns can all take a collective sigh of relief and enjoy the next few months, campaign free.

4 Hats off as well to the approximately three-dozen men and women who have thrown their hats into the political ring seeking several county offices. We hope all candidates will pledge to run clean, open and honest races.

We hope you and your family have a great week filled with lots of good news.
