HARRISONBURG — Funeral services for James Herbert Terry, 91, of Harrisonburg, La., who died Friday, March 6, 2015, at Rapides Medical Center, will be at the First Baptist Church of Harrisonburg at 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Reid Terry, Dr. Emil Turner and the Rev. Cory Bruce officiating.

Burial will follow at Harrisonburg Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the church and 10 a.m. until service time Monday.

James Herbert Terry was born on Wednesday, Sep. 19, 1923, in Aimwell, La., the son of Albert Abram Terry and Rita McGuffee Terry.

He was a resident of Harrisonburg and a member of the First Baptist Church of Harrisonburg where he served as a deacon fro 60 years, a Sunday school director and a Sunday school teacher.

Mr. Terry was a member of Harrisonburg Cemetery Board, Catahoula Parish Library and the Harrisonburg Rotary Club where he received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award. Terry was a life long business man who owned and operated Terry’s Hardware in Jonesville and Harrisonburg, co-founded and served as officer at Jonesville Bank & Trust Co. and operated Terry LLC until his death. He was also an educator in Catahoula Parish for 25 years. Mr. Terry proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 60 years, Juanita Joyce Terry; and son, Malcolm Terry.

Survivors include his sons, Greg Terry and wife, Sharron, of Harrisonburg, and Ken Terry and wife, Lucy, of Harrisonburg; daughters, Janell Agan and husband, Steve, of Lead, S.D. and DeDe Iles and husband, Curt, of Entebbe, Uganda; daughter-in-law, Kay Terry, of Harrisonburg; special cousins, Melba Bradford, Slagle McGuffee and Shirley Bartmess; and 13 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Pentecost, Dean Cannaday, David Joe McGuffee, Mike McGuffee, David Mitchell, Robert Bradley, Mike Johnson and Randy Taylor.

Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of the First Baptist Church of Harrisonburg.

Memorial may be made to First Baptist Church of Harrisonburg, Gideons International or Open Hands Ministries.
