McCOMB — Services for Maxine Carlisle Taylor Phipps, 87, of Crosby, who died Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at her residence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb.
Burial will follow at the Hollywood Cemetery under the direction of Jones Family Funeral Services.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Phipps was born April 1, 1927, in McComb, the daughter of Jesse and Ethel Floyd Carlisle.
She was a woman who walked by faith and always treated others as she wanted to be treated. Anything she had, she shared with those who needed it and always tried to take care of her family and friends. Her friends reciprocated by watching over her.
Mrs. Phipps loved to work in her garden and give away or sell the produce. This earned her the nickname of the tomato lady. She loved to raise chickens and gather eggs. This earned her the nickname of chicken mawmaw from her grandchildren. You never saw her without her big smile and twinkling eyes. She was also known for her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. We have truly lost our angel on earth.
She retired from the state of Louisiana and was a member of Pioneer Baptist Church.
Mrs. Phipps was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Ben Taylor and Grady Phipps; one son, Maxie Taylor; one stepson, Lavelle Phipps; one grandson, JC Taylor; and four siblings, JE, Jim and Loody Carlisle and Betty Carlisle Dunaway.
Survivors include one son, James “Butch” Taylor and wife, Shirley, of Crosby; one daughter, Bennie Taylor Payne and husband, Jerry, of Baton Rouge; two stepdaughters, Mary Taylor and husband, James, and Arlene Nicholas; one daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Taylor of Denham Springs, La.; one brother, John Carlisle and wife, Christy, of Mississippi; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Zack Payne, Jay Payne, Cody Payne, Landon Payne, Joey Gomes, Matt Taylor, Max Taylor, Ben Taylor, Kyler Graves, Kaden Graves and John Dillon Haney.
A special thanks to Mary, Sandra, Heather, Annette and others who loved her and helped her these last few months.
