NATCHEZ — An Adams County grand jury has indicted a Natchez teen in connection with the shooting death and robbery of another teenager.
Emanuel Carl Latham, 15, 8 Hampton Court, was indicted on charges of murder and armed robbery and booked into the Adams County Sheriff’s Office over the weekend.
ACSO records indicate Latham was released on a $90,000 bond.
An indictment means the grand jury agrees the case has enough merit to warrant a full trial of the evidence against a defendant.
Latham was arrested following the shooting death of 16-year-old Jessie Taylor.
Investigators said Taylor was trying to buy synthetic marijuana from Latham and another teen, Eddie Minor III, at the time of the shooting in the Beaumont Street area.
Investigators said at the time the shooting followed a fight that resulted when Latham and Minor decided to rob Taylor.
Members of Taylor’s family have disputed the official police story, saying he wasn’t in the area to purchase drugs.
The victim later died at Natchez Regional Medical Center as doctors tried to stabilize him for transport to Jackson. The shooting happened at approximately 9 p.m. Dec. 30, and Taylor was pronounced dead at 1:10 a.m.
District Attorney Ronnie Harper said Minor’s case was also presented to the grand jury, but the because the results have not been presented to the defendant they are not yet available to the public.
Minor is currently being detained in the Adams County jail on a $90,000 bond.
