Egg Hunt April 4 at Youth Center

A community Easter Egg Hunt will be hosted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, at the Natchez Youth Center.

Everyone in the community is invited to participate.

The event began last year by my daughter, Dalphinie Firley. She organized the hunt with my help and the help of Adams County Supervisor Angela Hutchinson. Dalphinie is a Natchez native who now lives in Memphis.

The Natchez Youth Center was chosen by Dalphinie as the site of the Easter Egg Hunt because of the size and the location, which makes it easy for children in the area to participate.

Since my daughter moved, I considered not hosting this year’s event. However, after a number of calls requesting that the hunt continue and people offering to volunteer help, I decided to go forward with this year’s Easter Egg Hunt. There are people who have asked, “Why are you doing this and your children are grown?” My response is, “I love children and God has given me the strength and placed it in my heart to carry on this event.”

This event allows the children of our community to come together and intermingle with their peers and enjoy various activities as well as build positive social skills. I want the children to truly enjoy themselves.

The Easter Egg Hunt is not just about hiding and finding eggs. This year’s activities will include pictures and fun with Peter, the famous bunny rabbit. Peter will have a basket full of surprises to give away. There will also be lots of toys and prize giveaways, such as Easter baskets and bicycles. The activities will be provided for three age groups: ages three to five, ages six to eight and ages nine to 12.

The event has been a success thus far and I pray this year will be as well. Last year’s event had a great turnout with every child receiving a prize. Each child and parent also enjoyed the snacks served. I have received an overwhelming number of donations this year to assist in making this event a success.

I thank the area businesses and individuals that donated needed items and time. There are absolutely too many to list. However, each of you is greatly appreciated for what you’ve done this year and last.
