NATCHEZ — A Natchez woman has been charged with stealing checks from an area church.
Lisa Leverette Freeman, 35, 115 South Commerce St., Apt. 8, was booked in the Adams County jail Tuesday on a bench warrant for false pretense, burglary of a church and forgery.
An Adams County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said investigators believe Freeman broke into Washington Baptist Church and stole checks from the church.
Freeman has reportedly been arrested for similar crimes in Louisiana, the spokesperson said.
Freeman was detained on a $55,000 bond Wednesday afternoon.
The matter remains under investigation.
