NATCHEZ — A man accused of participating in a string of home burglaries was apparently wearing a court-mandated ankle monitor while committing at least one of them.

Delvin Mason, 19, and Calvin Blake, 22, were arrested in February in connection with a home burglary on Somerset Road. Police have said they are suspected to have links to at least 10 other burglaries.

The two suspects were in Natchez Municipal Court for a preliminary hearing — a process during which a judge determines if enough evidence exists to charge a suspect — Tuesday.

Mason waived his hearing in exchange for having bond reduced from $90,000 to $60,000, while Blake requested the hearing.

Natchez Police Investigator Felisha Fleming testified that witnesses said they saw suspects leaving the scene of the Somerset Drive burglary in a green Honda vehicle. Investigators went to a gas station at the end of Somerset Drive — which is one way in and one way out — and looked at its surveillance video.

The two suspects were identified from the video, with Blake driving the car and Mason riding as passenger, Fleming said.

After the suspects were identified, investigators found out they were in the drug court program, and Mason was assigned an ankle monitor. Fleming said the monitor tracked his known locations to the Somerset Drive address.

Fleming said Mason later admitted to being present at the burglary with Blake, though Mason said he did not participate.

The vehicle was tracked to the residence of a woman with whom Blake was reportedly in a romantic relationship, Fleming said, and the woman told investigators she’d noticed televisions in her house that did not belong to her one morning.

Fleming said Blake reportedly unsuccessfully tried to sell a gun and successfully sold a television to people in the community following the Somerset burglary.

Fleming said investigators were not sure if the television or gun were connected with the Somerset burglary. She said investigators with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office also recovered a computer that had been stolen from Duncan Avenue at the woman’s residence.

After the hearing Judge Jim Blough said he found enough probable cause to bind Blake over to the grand jury and remand him to the custody of the Adams County jail.
