Congrats to Alcorn’s 19th president

Despite some inclement weather, the Miss-Lou made some leaps and bounds last week.
From Alcorn University celebrating the installation of its 19th president to Ferriday planning a town-wide clean up day, last week proved productive for the community.
Let’s take a moment to look back:
• City officials and community members packed Alcorn’s Graduate Business Building Thursday for two important recognitions — an investiture ceremony for Alfred Rankins Jr. as the university’s 19th president and to honor faculty members who served fearlessly to defend our country.
“I trust that each of us today can say that we feel a special spirit of service here in this room—we’re surrounded,” said Ruth Nichols, Alcorn assistant vice president of educational and community partnerships.
We couldn’t agree more.
• Wet conditions have left Ferriday in need of a spring spruce up. And as an effort to address those aesthetic shortcomings, town officials are hosting a community-wide clean up day May 9 starting at 8 a.m.
We encourage other communities to take cues from Ferriday and break out the brooms as needed.
• The Natchez Board of Alderman voted Tuesday to approve the first phase of a series of renovations for the Natchez Senior Citizens’ Multi-Purpose Center.
During the meeting, a number of senior citizens voiced their desire for infrastructure upgrades at the center.
We’re glad the board took heed to their concerns, and is diligently moving forward with making repairs.
