MEADVILLE — After sweeping McLaurin High School last Thursday night in the play-in round of the MHSAA Class 3A South State Playoffs, Division 7-3A No. 2 seed Franklin County High School’s fast-pitch softball team was scheduled to host Philadelphia High School for Game 1 of a first-round series Monday afternoon.
Instead, another weather disturbance that produced heavy rain and strong thunderstorms in south Mississippi and severe weather throughout much of south Louisiana forced the Lady Bulldogs’ home game against the Division 5-3A champion Lady Tornadoes to be postponed until today at 5 p.m.
Which means that Game 2 of the best-of-three series in Philadelphia will now take place on Wednesday at 5 p.m. If a third and deciding game is necessary, it will follow about 30 minutes after the conclusion of the Game 2.
Natchez High School’s baseball team’s pivotal and deciding Game 3 at Picayune High School in the play-in round of the MHSAA Class 5A South State Playoffs has also been postponed until today.
However, the game will not be played at Picayune, Bulldogs head coach Dan Smith said. Instead, the game will be played at a neutral site field somewhere between Natchez High and Picayune at a time to be determined. The Bulldogs are the No. 3 seed out of Division 6-5A while the Maroon Tide is the No. 2 seed from Division 7-5A.
And that also means Division 5-5A champion South Jones will have to wait until Wednesday afternoon to host the winner of the Natchez High-Picayune series for Game 1 of a first-round series.
Also, the running events at the MAIS Class A and Class AA South State Track Meets at Silliman Institute in Clinton, La. that were originally postponed from last Saturday until Monday have once again been a victim of the rough weather. Now, they will take on Wednesday beginning at 11 a.m.
