“We have a lot of trees down in the city limits and in the county,” said Jefferson County Sheriff Peter Walker. “We are completely out of power in the city.”

Entergy spokesperson Tim Runnels said approximately 2,100 customers lost power due to the storm.

Runnels said a tree fell on the transmission line between Natchez and Fayette, causing the major outage, but was fixed at 12:34 p.m. Monday.

There were 15 damaged power poles that, after the transmission line was fixed, continued to be the reason for the outages in Fayette.

Runnels said Entergy is trying to repair all the damage by 6 p.m. Tuesday.

“We are looking at this carrying over into tomorrow,” Runnels said Monday afternoon. “We don’t like that but there is just so much damage out there.”

Runnels said personnel were sent from Jackson, Brookhaven and other parts of Mississippi to help fix the restore power. Ninety workers total are trying to repair the damage done in Fayette.

Natchez suffered far less damage and delay in power than Fayette did.

Only about 600 Natchez residents lost power, but some of those customers regained power within minutes, while most of their power was restored by early morning Monday.

On Main Street in Fayette, a roof was blown off of Jefferson Bank and an attorney’s office into the road and trees across the street, but was cleared from the road Monday morning.

Fallen trees and other debris blocked some roads but no roads have been closed.
