FERRIDAY — Services for Hazel Jean Smith, 87, of Ferriday, who died Sunday, May 17, 2015, at the Grace Home in Alexandria, La., will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mercy Seat Baptist Church in Ferriday with the Rev. Danny L. Lewis officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation will be at 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Smith was born Oct. 27, 1927, in Willetts, La., the daughter of Thomas and Bertha Green Cotton.

She was retired from Ferriday Lower and Upper Elementary Schools as cafeteria manager.

She was also a member of the Mercy Seat Baptist Church and served as church clerk and Sunday school teacher.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Smith; one daughter, Gale LaDonna Vosley; one brother, Henry Cotton; two sisters, Hannah Cotton and Bernice Armstrong; her parents; and one stepson, J.D. Smith.

Survivors include one sister, Roosevelt Hymon and husband, Clarence, of Ferriday; one son-in-law, J.T. Vosley of Shreveport, La.; five grandchildren, Jennifer Crawford and husband, Chuck, of Grand Prairie, Texas, Ashley Vosley of Shreveport, Kimberly Smith, Mea Smith and Dontrell Smith, all of Los Angeles; two great-grandchildren, Keldon Crawford and Khalia Crawford of Grand Prairie; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
