FERRIDAY — Two Ferriday residents have been arrested in connection with a late Friday evening shooting that left one man dead and sent another man to the hospital.
Lekita Mayberry, 29, 100 Kyle Road, Apt. D29, and Damion Hollins, 22, 313 Alabama Ave., were arrested Monday night on charges of principal to second-degree murder.
Louisiana law describes principals as, “All persons concerned in the commission of a crime, whether present or absent, and whether they directly commit the act constituting the offense, aid and abet in its commission, or directly or indirectly counsel or procure another to commit the crime.”
A principal could face the same penalty as the person charged with the initial crime, in this case James Jerome Hollins, 23, 313 Alabama Ave., who was charged Saturday with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder following a shooting in the area of Concordia Park Apartments.
Ferriday Police have declined to discuss the specifics of the incident. Police Chief Derrick Freeman did not return messages about the arrests Tuesday.
Following the shooting, one of the victims — Zan’Ron Williams — fled to the 2700 block of Louisiana 15 with a gunshot wound to the arm, later dying of blood loss and being pronounced dead at Riverland Medical Center.
The second victim, Contrell Milligan, was found lying in the parking lot of the Concordia Park apartments. Milligan was shot in the lower leg, but is expected to make a full recovery.
The three suspects have been detained without bond while they await magistration.
