PEARL — The Cathedral Green Wave captured the MHSAA Class 1A baseball state championship Friday with a 4-2 win against Smithville.

This is the first baseball championship for Cathedral since 2004, and with the win, the Green Wave finish the season 26-4.

Cathedral won Game 1 of the best-of-three series Wednesday, 13-1.

Starting pitcher Gabe Smith got the win for Cathedral and Sam Parker picked up the save.
