NATCHEZ — The Adams County Board of Supervisors has authorized the sale of four acres of the former Belwood Country Club to Great River Industries.
The sale of the property is part of a deal the county made with GRI last year when the company announced its plans to expand operations and locate its corporate headquarters in Adams County, Natchez Inc. Executive Director Chandler Russ said.
“We agreed to sell four acres of the most eastern portion of the Belwood property,” Russ said.
“It will mostly be a lay down yard so they can move some of their equipment and get some space at their facility. Long term, it is part of the growth plan to accommodate some additional pipe fabrication.”
Russ said the land transaction should occur within the next two weeks. The authorization was given by the supervisors Friday.
Board attorney Scott Slover said the land would be sold at approximately $25,000 an acre.
Russ said the land GRI will acquire is outside the area of the Belwood property that has been planned to ultimately have a ring levee built around it. A significant portion of the 120-acre site takes on water when the nearby Mississippi River rises above flood stage.
Supervisors President Darryl Grennell said the county purchased the Belwood property in 1998 with a U.S. Rural Development grant.
