NATCHEZ — The Natchez Police Department is investigating the apparent shooting death of a city employee.

The police responded to the scene at Riverbreeze apartments at approximately 8 a.m. Thursday, where they found the victim deceased, Natchez Police Investigator Jerry Ford said at the scene.

Police Chief Daniel White said the department had not determined with certainty if the shooting was a self-inflicted wound or if the case would be treated as a homicide.

Adams County Coroner James Lee said he responded to the scene Thursday morning, but declined to comment on the matter, saying it was an open investigation.

Lee said he would be able to speak more conclusively after an autopsy was performed on the victim.
