Jamarius Jackson, 20, of 124 Brightwood Ave. was shot twice, once in his lower hip and once in his back, and later died at Merit Hospital Natchez, a Natchez Police official said.

No arrests have been made, police said.

“We do know that there was some type of altercation going on at Holiday Apartments involving a group of young guys and a family,” said Natchez Police Department Detective Jerry Ford. “We’re thinking it may have been a drive-by shooting.” Police responded to an aggravated assault call at Holiday Apartments at 10 p.m. Friday, but by the time they arrived Jackson had already been taken to Merit Hospital Natchez.

Jackson was pronounced dead in the hospital’s emergency room, said James Lee, Adams County coroner. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Natchez Police or Crime Stoppers at (601) 442-5000. Rewards for information can be up to $1,000.
