NATCHEZ — Natchez Police are continuing to investigate the deadly Friday night shooting at Holiday Apartments.

Natchez Police Department Investigator Lt. Craig Godbold said Monday the police are looking at several persons of interest in the matter, but no warrants for arrest have been issued at this point.

“The case is moving forward, we just don’t have the case to make an arrest yet,” Godbold said.

Jamarius Jackson, 20, 124 Brightwood Ave., was shot in the incident, which police responded to at approximately 10 p.m. Friday.

Jackson was transported to Merit Health Natchez with wounds to his hip and back, and died later that night at the hospital.

Investigators said at the time they knew of an altercation with a group of young men and a family in the apartment complex, and believed the incident may have been tied to it.

“We have continued to hear that story, and we are trying now to verify if there was an altercation earlier in the evening,” Godbold said.

Police likewise said this weekend they believed the incident was a drive-by shooting, a suspicion witnesses at the crime scene indicated was correct, with one witness saying she had seen a black car speeding off following the firing of the shots.

Anyone with information about the shooting should contact Crime Stoppers at 601-442-5000.
