Weekend Ticket: Movies, more ahead for weekend

natchez — Movies, food and music will give everyone a chance for some entertainment as the month of June draws to a close.

The forecast for this weekend predicts temperatures in the mid to high 80s with the temperature on Friday reaching a high of 90 degrees. Friday and Saturday may have some thunderstorms, but Sunday is predicted to be clear with some clouds.

At 4:30 p.m. tonight the Judge George W. Armstrong Library will host a free showing of “Big Hero 6.”

The movie night is part of the library’s summer reading program, based on the theme that “All Heroes Don’t Wear Capes.”

“We definitely want parents bringing their kids for some summer activities,” Patrick Landers, the library’s IT Director, said.

The movie night is free of charge, and free pizza and drinks will be provided for movie-goers.

However, Landers advises families to get there early.

“We’re probably going to be booked up by 4, 4:30,” Landers said. “The movie starts promptly at 4:30.”

The event will take place on the second floor of the library in the media room.

Red Cross Everyday Heroes Annual Fundraiser

The Natchez Red Cross is hosting a fish fry for its Everyday Heroes Annual Fundraiser on Friday.

The fish fry is sponsored by the Natchez Community Board of Red Cross and sponsored by Bowie’s Tavern. All proceeds from the event go to the American Red Cross to support local disaster relief.

The $9 ticket provides a meal of fish, fries, hush puppies, slaw, dessert and a beverage.

“They’ll also deliver for orders of 10 plates or more, so that’s a nice option,” Anna Rogers, regional communication director for the American Red Cross, said.

The event will take place at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Parkway Baptist Church parking lot and is open to the public. To purchase tickets, call (601) 442-3656.

Louisiana Country Music Opry

The Arcade Theater in Ferriday will host its monthly country musical program on Saturday.

The program will feature the Gene King Band and other artists from the Louisiana Area.

The performance starts at 7 p.m. at the Arcade Theater Performing Arts Center. Tickets cost $10.
