Busy week highlighted by hard workers

Last week saw a plethora of hot topics on the national level, but Natchez didn’t miss a beat with great local news. Let’s take a moment to call out the highlights:
4The tricentennial year is inching closer, and organizers are prepared with a long list of great events. Those events need funding, though. Entergy has already given $15,000 to support the year’s events, and we encourage other local businesses to follow their lead, as this will be a landmark year for our community.
4Despite the scorching summer heat, two dedicated city employees were out in the hot sun last week mowing grass and cutting down trees on abandoned, blighted city properties. We thank our city officials for answering residents’ complaints and hiring these employees solely for the purpose of beautifying our community.
4Natchez 10-year-old Bradly Richardson is preparing to represent our area next week at the People to People Leadership Ambassador Program in Washington, D.C. We wish Richardson safe travels and good luck as he embarks on this trip.
4Natchez hosted the Southern Christian Services for Children and Youth conference last week, bringing hundreds of childcare advocates to the area.
4Area children broke out their arts and crafts supplies last week as several summer camps opened their doors. Natchez Arts Association was one such outlet for area children looking for some summer fun. We applaud all the local summer camps hosted, and those who make them possible.
As we plunge into another busy week, we encourage residents to stay cool and keep active — just as always.
