McCOMB — Services for Parker Hicks Voss, 39, of McComb, who died Friday, July 3, 2015, in McComb, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in McComb with the Rev. Brian Kaskie officiating.
A private burial will be at the Hollywood Cemetery under the direction of Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial.
Mr. Voss was born Nov. 8, 1975, in Jackson, the son of Bill and Jean Parker Voss.
He was a 1994 graduate of McComb High School and an Eagle Scout. He was proud to have 18 first cousins and his large family was something that was very special to him.
He graduated from Louisiana State University in 1998, with a degree in political science and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He received a master’s degree from Arizona State University in political science. He earned a Le Cordon Bleu degree from the Scottsdale Culinary Institute in 2001.
Parker was head chef at the Caboose Restaurant in McComb. Prior to that, he served as head chef at the Beau Rivage Hotel and Casino’s fine dining steakhouse, BR Prime. He also was sous-chef at Restaurant 32 at the Imperial Palace in Biloxi, and had stints with prestigious restaurants, including Gary Danko’s Five-Star restaurant in San Francisco and Commander’s Palace in New Orleans.
Parker was a student of politics and political issues and championed the handicapped and abused people in every community. He was known for his kindness to everyone he met. Parker had a special place in his heart and in his home for stray dogs and cats. Many became long term companions.
Parker was one of the original chefs of the event, Shuffle to the Chefs, benefiting St. Andrew’s Mission. He participated in the event every year since. He also was an enthusiastic loyal supporter of Camp Sunshine. He contributed his time and talent to this McComb JA project for more than 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Axel Voss; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Parker; his uncle and godfather, Fred Voss; uncle, Charles Parker; and his aunt, Libby Voss.
Survivors include his parents of McComb; five aunts and uncles, Tommy Parker of McComb, Pat Voss, Carl and Glenda Voss, Delphine Prestridge, all of Natchez, Bob and Barbara Voss of New Orleans and Philip and Nancy Voss of Jacksonville, Fla.; and a number of other family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be his first cousins, Van Voss, Lori Olinde, Mary Glenn Bradley, Ricky Voss, Natalie Scoville, Page Voss, Dane Mallette, Jenny Anderson, Amy Mattox, Leigh Hinton, Suzanne Kerkezie, Lucy Bravo, Matthew Voss, Katie Voss, Erik Voss, Brian Parker, Brad Parker and Dave Parker.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Camp Sunshine, P.O. Box 111, McComb, MS 39649.
