Be informed this election season

As bad as many of us think we have it, imagine life in some other country, one that doesn’t provide its citizens the freedoms Americans enjoy.

With our liberties, however, come responsibilities, primary among them the right to choose those who represent us in our government.

Natchez and Adams County residents will be asked to do exactly that beginning Aug. 4, when our state holds its partisan primary elections.

If needed, the runoff election date is Aug. 25.

Winners from each party will advance to the general election Nov. 3.

Choosing from among the many candidates for some election positions can be daunting. However, next week, you have the opportunity to learn more about each candidate running and where they stand on pertinent issues.

The Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce, along with The Natchez Democrat, will hold candidate forums beginning at 5 p.m. on July 13 and 14, at the Natchez Convention Center.

On July 13, candidates for constable, coroner, chancery clerk, tax assessor and sheriff will speak and answer questions about issues facing the positions they seek.

On July 14, candidates circuit clerk and county supervisor will do the same.

The forums are free and open to all. Plan to attend and learn more about issues and where candidates stand. To submit a question, please send by email to debbie@natchezchamber.com or newsroom@natchezdemocrat.com

Be a good citizen and cast an informed ballot on Aug. 4.
