JACKSON (AP) — Mississippi’s charter school agency is rejecting a Natchez charter school proposal.
The Charter School Authorizer Board, meeting Tuesday in Laurel, voted to advance plans for two schools in Jackson proposed by RePublic Schools, and could approve them in September.
But the board says the plan for Phoenix Early College Charter School in Natchez doesn’t meet board standards.
The board says the Phoenix plan is inadequate to meet needs of students with disabilities, students learning English, and gifted and talented students. The board also says Phoenix doesn’t have enough detail about startup plans, including a goal to raise $100,000.
RePublic Schools wants to open a K-8 school and a 5-8 school. The same group will open Reimagine Prep — one of Mississippi’s first two charter schools — next month in Jackson.
